Commitment for a new spirit

The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie is an international top-level orchestra. But that does not even begin to convey the essence of this unique orchestra. For the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie is more than just an orchestra, it is the embodiment of an idea – the idea that performing orchestral music can be taught, learned, and practiced today in a completely new way.

Over the years, more than 2.000 young musicians have played with the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the elite of German music academies. For a few years, they were able to embark on their future profession here without being immediately confronted with the more unpleasant aspects of a professional musician’s life. At the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, orchestra work is done “from the bottom up”, so to speak. At concerts, renowned soloists and directors are always at the fore, but the members of the orchestra make all organizational and artistic decisions themselves. This ideal of an autonomous, innovative type of musician is the really revolutionary aspect of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie.

The new breed of musician nurtured by this orchestra is already influencing musical life in general. Numerous former members of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie have contributed their ideas and skills to municipal and state orchestras. Others, whose artistic expectations were not fulfilled by any existing ensemble, teamed up and founded new groups such as the Ensemble Modern, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Freiburger Barock Orchester, Ensemble Resonanz, etc.

The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie is an elite ensemble continuously renewing itself, a forum for independent young musicians who are open to the future, and the starting point for many positive changes in the German cultural landscape. In order to ensure that this remains possible in the future, prominent business leaders have joined forces to offer this unique, indispensable organization both financial and moral support.

We would like to encourage you to do the same. Show your commitment to this new artistic spirit in Germany, which will be certain to inspire you the first time you experience it, just as it inspired us.

The project Junge Deutsche Philharmonie needs your support.
